Having Your Own Back

I have a question for you whether you are on the journey to conceiving or already growing your family.

When you set out on the journey to become a parent did you know it would be this hard?

Did anyone prepare you for self doubt, feeling like a failure or the grief that would come from a complete identity shift?

IF they did, did you believe them?

I ask this because I have found it to be true of myself and so many other women that you are never quite ready for the shake up that occurs internally on this profound transformation event to parent.

And if we don't see that coming we can sometimes be our own worst critic, thinking something has gone wrong, even though it hasn't.

Last week I shared with you the importance of community to help aid in modeling these transformations. 

But this week, I want you to go to the micro community- you and your thoughts.

I think having your own back, which simply means committing to yourself to not be hard on yourself on top of things when life goes sideways, is one of the best tools you could ever learn to wield with proficiency. 

I say learn, but in order to use this tool, it's really more a game of unlearning. 

When we can unlearn the habit of being hard on ourselves for no reason other than conditioning, magic happens. 

Our self worth begins to blossom all from within.

We don't feel the need to achieve the next thing in order to feel worthy slowing down the cycle of burnout.

We stop looking outside of ourselves to feel confident. 

We emerge as the beautiful, miraculous beings that we are instead of hiding in a perpetual state of not enoughness. 

And while this is powerful in and of itself and will certainly electrify your life in ways you can't even dream of yet, the absolute best thing that will happen is you will model this for your kids when they do arrive. 

And if they are already here, it's not too late.

They will learn to have their own back simply by watching you learn how to be your own best friend.
